about the artist

Alfred Galvez is a Filipino painter and educator whose work bridges classical discipline, cultural reinvention, and decorative mastery. As the country’s leading expert in hand-painted murals for residential and commercial interiors, his works are highly sought after by homeowners, interior designers, and architects for their elegance, craftsmanship, and sense of atmosphere.

Born in Davao City, Galvez began his formal training at the Philippine High School for the Arts on Mount Makiling. He later studied at University of the Philippines and pursued further studies in Florence, Italy, specializing in decorative painting and grottesca ornamentation. At 17, he entered into a decade-long apprenticeship under conservation expert Dean Mariano Madarang, where he gained firsthand knowledge of historical layering, material techniques, and anatomical structure through close engagement with major works by Luna, Hidalgo, Amorsolo, and others.

In addition to his artistic practice, Galvez completed the Managing the Arts program at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), equipping him with the tools to build sustainable creative platforms and expand access to quality art education.

He is the founder of Galvez Atelier, a studio offering premier art workshops centered on classical drawing and painting programs. Rooted in academic tradition but open to contemporary relevance, the Atelier provides structured, skills-based training for artists of all backgrounds—combining sight-size drawing, tonal logic, comparative measurement, and layered oil painting into a comprehensive path toward mastery.

Galvez is best known for Filipinoiserie—his signature style that fuses neoclassical visual language with Filipino iconography, material culture, and domestic memory. Through works such as Kwentong Diwata, Chairs and Embroideries, Filipinoiserie series, and Arinola, he reclaims the ornamental as a form of storytelling—where history, identity, and everyday life converge.

As an artist, muralist, and mentor, Alfred Galvez remains dedicated to preserving tradition while imagining new futures—where beauty is structure, heritage is alive, and art becomes a space for meaning.
